Livestock Tag Reader Rebate - Accepting applications now

The Livestock Tag Reader Rebate program is funded under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. This program provides cost-share funding for the implementation of livestock tag readers (hand-held or panel readers), reader installation, related software, and related equipment training. 


All eligible tag readers are listed in the CCIA RFID Readers List below.

Program Information

Who is eligible?

BC Livestock Operators are eligible for funding under the Livestock Tag Reader Rebate, including:


  • Ranchers;
  • Abattoirs; and
  • 4-H Districts. 


Other eligibility requirements:


  • Applicants must own, sell, feed, house, or care for cattle, hogs, sheep, bison, cervids, and/or goats in BC;
  • Materials, equipment, and/or services must be directly related to the facilitation of livestock traceability activities; and
  • Applicants must be registered in the BC Premises Identification Program (BCPID): Registration for BCPID can happen simultaneously with this application: www.gov.bc.ca/premisesidprogram. 4-H district applicants can provide the BCPID# for the location where they showcase their animals, i.e. agricultural fair grounds or 4-H leader’s farm.  

What activities are eligible?

 There is a $3,500 annual cost share funding maximum available for eligible activities including:


  • Livestock tag readers (hand-held or panel readers);
  • Reader installation;
  • Related software; and
  • Related equipment training.


Please check the CCIA RFID Readers List below to confirm which tag readers are eligible for funding.


Ineligible items include, but are not limited to: taxes, computers, ear tags, load bars, and livestock handling systems.
